Proceedings of the 2012 International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME 2012)Abstract:
Force-feedback devices can provide haptic feedback during interaction with physical models for sound synthesis. How- ever, low-end devices may not always provide high-fidelity display of the acoustic characteristics of the model. This article describes an enhanced handle for the Phantom Omni containing a vibration actuator intended to display the high- frequency portion of the synthesized forces. Measurements are provided to show that this approach achieves a more faithful representation of the acoustic signal, overcoming limitations in the device control and dynamics.
