Sustainable Haptic Development

Description:

Developing Haptic devices using commercial products runs the risk of components no longer being produced or new versions no longer being compatible with the current firmware or hardware. TorqueTuner is an embedded module that allows Digital Musical Instrument (DMI) designers to map sensors to parameters of haptic effects and dynamically modify rotary force feedback in real-time that was designed in 2019 by Mathias Kirkegaard and Christian Frisson. The board used to control the stepper motor has not been readily available for a year.

This project aims to recreate the Torquetuner module using the Moteus Controller and create new form factors for the device including developing a Probatio module. We updated the firmware to support an LCD and buttons to display the current haptic effect and to change it.
